Support Our Neighbors at the Border

On May 25, volunteers from the ISA and Drivers Listos filled up 4 vehicles with thousands of dollars’ worth of donations of nonperishable food, water, and hygiene supplies and made the trek to El Chapparal Camp in Tijuana, in partnership with the San Diego-based nonprofit Border Angels. There, the volunteers witnessed just some of the immense need that we still see at our Southern Border. Anna DiStefano wrote “The population (at the one encampment we visited) fluctuates between 2,000 to 2,500 and almost half of the population are children. Tents are on top of each other and conditions seem inhumane.”

The ongoing extortion, violence, and adversity that asylum seekers face at home and on their journeys reveals that many will risk even life itself to arrive at the United States-Mexico Border. Surviving in camps along the Tijuana border, many face risks awaiting hearings. Many are vulnerable to gang violence, abuse, and trauma.

The ISA has teamed up with Drivers Listos and SB-area faith communities to provide ongoing relief to our neighbors at the border in partnership with various organizations in Tijuana and MexiCali, including Border Angels and La Cobina Shelter. Funds donated will be sent to La Cobina Shelter staff and volunteers to purchase and distribute toiletries, clothing, and food/water.

We hope to raise $6,000 by April 14… and we are already 30% of the way there! Will you join with us?

Thank you for your generous support of our neighbors at the border!
